Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn: Story outlines, key quotes, and reflections
Reflection – Four main themes I enjoy seeing in this series in God’s beauty of written word.
- Small teams that trust can accomplish much: Mitch, Irene, Thomas, Coleman, Reavers, Wicker, etc. Good stewards of power to serve and create order.
- Justice satisfies, and wrong does not get away with it: Justice is a theme much more than vengeance. There is a “job-completion” sense of things being good enough that resonates.
- Tradecraft from 20 years ago still applies today: Getting out of big cities, setting up an operation, using public transportation to blend in, being extra observant on everything around you, is what I enjoy. It is creatively using what is often in plain sight for other purposes.
- This world is not our home: Mitch’s focus and sacrifice, contentment and hard work gives a sense of not looking for comfort in this world. He is comfortable in the “suck.” He “handles hard better” and is okay staying in it. There are great moments of rest held up in the series: weekend on the glass-calm lake in Wisconsin after Memorial Day with Anna and her family is a great example.
Vince Flynn’s gift as a writer set this series apart from me from other writers. He is in the Grisham category for me on visual storytelling. Hiss use of detailed dialogue, character development, narrative, and plot are exceptional and kept me coming back to read this series many times, some of these books I have completed five or more times after Jackson died.
(I have a 3 page summary of all 14 books if you need it and don’t care about spoilers 🙂
